Soraya was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, within a working class community of Palestinian refugees. She discovers that her grandfather's life's savings were frozen in a bank account in Jaffa when he was exiled in 1948. She decides to fulfill her dream of ''returning'' to Palestine forever, or so she thinks.
From the beginning, things turn out not to be as she had hoped; humiliations accumulate, humiliations specially reserved for her people, and very soon she discovers the reality of her desolate, despoiled and lost country.
