A look into the daily life of Brazil's gold-diggers, the ''garimpeiros''. A humble people who live lost in the forest to wrest wealth from the earth, the garimpeiros are the protagonists of the last real-life American western. They are border people. With them, Western civilization ends its siege on the last virgin lands of the south-American continent. But they have arrived too late. What was once called ''civilization'' today signifies to a large extent, destruction and lack of respect for indigenous cultures and for nature.
