Synopsis
2005 marks the 400th anniversary of the publication of one of the world’s best-known literary works: The Adventures of Don Quixote of La Mancha. Considered to be the first modern novel, 2005 will thus be a celebration not only for the anniversary of literary masterpiece, but also of the most important literary genre of our time. But “The Quixote” is much more than just the first modern novel: it is a classic, because its message still applies to men and women today.
This documentary explores all this and more, using previously undisclosed archive material, interviews with famous writers such as Mario Vargas Llosa, Jean Caravaggio, Francisco Rico, Martí de Riquer, or José Saramago, as well as re-enactments of the author’s life. It is an insight into a truly exciting period of European history, and a review of its perceptive author’s action-packed life.
